For the first time in the history of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), 10 tribes will compete in the upcoming 15th edition of the NWA Open and the 1st Women’s Open Naga Wrestling Championship 2025. The championship is scheduled to take place on March 28 at Khuochiezhie Local Ground, Kohima.
NWA President Vivolie Kezo stated that a total of 129 wrestlers, including 100 men and 29 women, will participate in the open championship. The participating tribes are Angami, Chakhesang, Zeliang, Lotha, Sumi, Pochury, Rengma, Chang, Ao, and Phom.
Meanwhile, NWA General Secretary Kenlum Hemang announced the association’s decision to hold two categories of wrestling: Naga Traditional Wrestling and Naga Wrestling.
