The 116th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the monthly radio program by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was screened at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, on November 24, 2024. The event highlighted the achievements of Naik Subedar Hokato Hotozhe Sema, a Paralympian, and Team Better Dimapur for their outstanding contributions to the state and nation.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said, “It is a great honor and privilege to celebrate and honor the resilience, dedication, and spirit of service represented by Naik Subedar Hokato Hotozhe Sema and Team Better Dimapur. Today, we recognize their extraordinary contributions to both our state and our nation.”
Naik Subedar Hokato H. Sema, an Indian Army officer and sportsman, was commended for his inspiring journey from a soldier to a para-athlete. After losing his leg during an operation in Kashmir in 2002, he demonstrated exceptional perseverance and commitment. His achievement in winning a bronze medal in shot-put at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris was described as a testament to his indomitable spirit.
“We salute him today for not giving up after losing his leg; instead, he chose to bring more glory to our nation as an athlete,” the Governor remarked.
The Governor also praised Team Better Dimapur for their community initiatives, particularly their annual sports meet for orphanages and children’s homes in Dimapur, held in April 2024. “For me, it was not just an awareness campaign. I saw that the idea for the sports meet came straight from their hearts, driven by their love and compassion for the children. That was the reason why I agreed to be the Chief Guest for the sports meet,” he said.
He further highlighted their commitment to cleanliness, environmental protection, and civic responsibility, emphasizing that such initiatives inspire others to take action. “Our society is enriched by the endeavors of individuals and groups like these, who remind us of what can be achieved when dedication meets purpose. We need more people like Hokato and Team Better Dimapur to continue leading the way,” the Governor added.
The event also included the felicitation of Hokato Hotozhe Sema and Team Better Dimapur by the Governor of Nagaland. The Governor concluded his address with a call to action: “Today, we honor them not just with words but with our actions, by supporting their initiatives and celebrating their courage and vision. May their stories inspire us all to serve with dedication and compassion.”
Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Rajesh Soundararajan, delivered the introductory note, outlining the themes of the 116th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
The program featured short speeches by Thungchanbemo Tungoe, CEO of Dimapur Municipal Council; Bambi Kevichusa, Information Secretary of Team Better Dimapur; Nuneseno Chase, Director of YouthNet; and Hokato Hotozhe Sema.
