Mokokchung, October 8 (MTNews): World Hospice and Palliative Care Day was observed at PBCA HQ Convention Hall, Longleng on 8th October 2022 in the presence of Rontu Sangma, Co-ordinator North East PALLIUM INDIA which was first of its kind in the district. The day was observed through the personal initiative of Dr. Obangjungla Chief Medical Officer, Longleng in partnership with PALLIUM INDIA and Phom Baptist Christian Association.

 

Civil society leaders of the district, functioning unions of the district, 11 ward officials, students from different academic institutions and well wishers operating in different humanitarian works also attended the event.
Dr. Obangjungla Chief Medical Officer Longleng while delivering her keynote address expressed her desire to create palliative home care service in the district. She mentioned that World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is observed every year on the 2nd Saturday of October under different themes. This year 2022, the theme is “Healing Hearts and Communities”.

 

She also stressed on compassion, comfort and care to the terminally sick members of the family through a palliative care approach with the community coming together. With this, she also noted that Home Based Palliative care will soon be initiated in the Longleng district.

 

Executive secretary of PBCA N.Tialemba Phom while embracing palliative care concept added on the relevance of the Church Ministry to approach towards palliative care and stressed that Home Care Ministry should be taken with compassion and commitment by the attendees and also the church ministers.

 

Rontu Sangma, Co-ordinator North East PALLIUM INDIA in his speech gave a relevant education to the attendees and also emphasized on the Home Based Palliative Care setting in the district. His presence in the district brought a strong sense of encouragement to the community.

 

The program was led by Anghben Phom, women secretary PBCA. Testimony on caring for terminally sick members at home was shared by Mr. Langnyak Phom. Dr. Waulong Ngonyen, Senior Grade Specialist Radiodiagnosis pronounced the vote of thanks.
