The Union Home Ministry has called for the expedited construction of border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur. Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh revealed that the Ministry has requested a swift survey and alignment of the 243-kilometer stretch of the border in the state. This information was shared by the Chief Minister in the legislative assembly.

The Indo-Myanmar international border spans 1,643 kilometers, shared among Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Nagaland (215 km), Manipur (398 km), and Mizoram (510 km). The fencing project aims to curb illegal entry and enhance national security. Additionally, certain paramilitary units previously hindering peace efforts have been reassigned.

Earlier, Naga civil bodies and organizations  of Manipur submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Amit Shah advocating for the repatriation of illegal migrants and fugitives from Myanmar. The memorandum, submitted by the United Naga Council (UNC), Naga Women’s Union (NWU), All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), and Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPM-HR), also requested the withdrawal of Assam Rifles from areas along the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong, Manipur.
