Mokokchung, 29 August (MTNews): “For people of the Northeast, human touch that we care is critical for them,” said former Home Secretary Gopal Krishna Pillai in a recent interview with senior journalist Karan Thapar for The Wire. Pillai was talking on the issue of Manipur and his views that Prime Minister Modi’s intervention in the Manipur situation would have made a tremendous impact.
“It is very important especially for the people of the Northeast to feel that the State Government and the Central Government cares about them and that is very very important. They are very emotional people and unless you approach them emotionally, you will never be able to win their confidence,” he said.
Amit Shah yet to fulfil his promises on Manipur
A report from The Wire found that Amit Shah is yet to fulfil his promises to Manipur. The Wire’s reports found that out of 150 people who died between 3 May and 9 June, only 45 people have received compensation from the state government alone. The Union government has not given out any compensation except in Kakching, where six people received the Union’s share of Rs 5 lakh but nothing yet from the Manipur government.
The Wire also reported that 35 people have already died in Churachandpur due to the lack of medicines and proper treatment at the hospital in the district. This revelation comes despite Home Minister Amit Shah promising to send eight medical teams formed by the Indian government.
