An ICSSR-sponsored 10-Day Research Methodology Course for Research Scholars was inaugurated at Nagaland University’s Department of Teacher Education on February 10, 2025. The course aims to enhance the research skills and capabilities of young research scholars by providing a comprehensive understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
The inaugural program was graced by Prof Ramesh C Patel, Vice-Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE), Gujarat, as the Guest of Honour, and Prof GT Thong, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Kohima Campus, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Prof GN Tiwari, Head of the Department (HoD), and Prof PK Pattnaik, Course Director.
Prof Ramesh C Patel highlighted the expectations from young researchers at the juncture of 100 years of Independent India (1947 to 2047). He urged participants to place special emphasis on a fundamental understanding of research knowledge and practices, such as sampling frames, research questions, and research objectives. He also stressed the importance of intellectual honesty in research, particularly in the era of artificial intelligence. Prof. Patel asserted that knowledge and understanding in research will ultimately influence policy-making and teacher education practices in India in general and Nagaland in particular.
Prof GT Thong, Pro-Vice Chancellor, elaborated on the importance of applying scientific research processes in educational research. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the organizers, which enable young research scholars to acquire new knowledge.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof Gyanendra Nath Tiwari, Head of the Department, highlighted the significance of research methodology in academic and professional growth. He emphasized the role of rigorous research practices in contributing to educational reforms and policy development, particularly in the context of teacher education.
The background note of the Research Methodology Course was delivered by Prof PK Pattnaik, Course Director, who elaborated on the need and importance of the course while outlining the topics that will be covered by resource persons from across the country over the next ten days.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Sushil Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Teacher Education, Nagaland University. He gratefully acknowledged the presence of dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, and course participants. Special appreciation was extended to the organizing team for their efforts in coordinating the event and to the participants for their enthusiastic involvement.
The session, chaired by Dr Seema R Thappa, was attended by 200 participants.
