Mokokchung, August 30 (MTNews): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday has said that the NSCN (IM) and the NNPGs have signed to be with the Indian Union by signing the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position respectively. According to a DIPR report, Rio while speaking on the Naga political issue said the negotiating parties have already signed the framework agreement and the agreed position which means they have signed to be with the Indian Union. “But to recognize the unique history of the Nagas and to co-exist with a new relationship of the two entities which was done in the spirit of framework agreement and with the spirit that sovereignty lies with the people our movement should be recognized,” DIPR reported Rio as saying in Wokha on Tuesday.
Rio further stated that the present government is sincere and committed to resolve the Naga issue and added that settlement should come at the earliest and if it so happens, he said, “we will not obstruct but will pave the way in Naga wisdom and tribal wisdom and resign for the interim government and think in terms of how Nagas should live as a united family and progress with the help of God.”
Rio also stated that the special status given to Nagaland involves decision making according to the customary law. “We have a recognized tradition and customary law and the guardians of the customary law and traditions of the Nagas and the community is the apex body of the tribal hohos and the Village Council institutional Chairman is the ultimate authority,” Rio said, according to the DIPR report. He then urged the guardians of customary law and traditions to know the true meaning of the institution and work accordingly for the welfare of the community.
The Chief Minister, while speaking at the inaugural function of the Lotha Hoho (Lotha Tribal Council) building on 30th August 2022 in Wokha town also stated that there are about 15 schemes directly benefiting the farmers and appealed to the District Administration and concerned departments for monitoring of the schemes and policies to ensure that they are implemented correctly and that both the Central and State programs and policies are reaching the intended populations.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Geology & Mining V. Kashiho Sangtam, Advisor for School Education K.T. Sukhalu, Advisor Imnatiba, Advisor Er. Zale Neikha, Advisor Dr. Chumben Murry, Chuba Chang and host of dignitaries and party officials from NDPP and BJP.
