IMD issues yellow alert as Northeast India braces for heavy rainfall

Mokokchung, 20 February (MTNews): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in northeast states including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 22 February. The weather bureau has predicted isolated rainfall on 22 February with 64.5-115.5mm rainfall expected across the states, with precipitation levels ranging from 64.5mm to 115.5mm in various areas.

The IMD’s data further indicates a pattern of light to moderate rainfall throughout the Northeast from Tuesday to Friday (20-23 February), accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Moreover, higher-altitude regions may witness snowfall as well.

As the week progresses, the intensity of rainfall is projected to increase, with heavy rain or snowfall anticipated in parts of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday.

Additionally, heavy showers are likely to impact areas of Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland during this period.

Given the forecasted weather conditions, authorities advise residents to exercise caution and reconsider any planned outdoor activities for the coming days.
