Mokokchung, November 12 (MTNews): Mokokchung launched the Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANs) campaign to ensure early detection and increased awareness of pneumonia in children under the age of five, and observed World Pneumonia Day on November 12, 2022 at the Conference Hall, CMO office Mokokchung.
During the launch program, Chumlamo Humtsoe Addl. Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung stated that while pneumonia is a preventable disease, precious children may lose their lives due to a lack of awareness. As such, he urged the members to educate and sensitize the community in order to prevent pneumonia.
Dr. Imlisenba, pediatrician, IMDH gave a PowerPoint presentation on SAANs, explaining that the goal of the SAANs campaign is to prevent and control child deaths from pneumonia. Through the SAANs campaign, the government has implemented equal standard treatment protocols, capacity building, community awareness, and a mass media campaign, among other things.
In her welcome speech, Dr Limatula Aier, Chief Medical Officer, Mokokchung stated that pneumonia is a common ailment among children that we take for granted, but the mortality rate of pneumonia is very high. She went on to say that by intervening at the right time, the morbidity of pneumonia can be reduced.
Dr Limanaro DPO (NCD) Mokokchung presided over the event, which was attended by medical officers, Department of Social Welfare, DPMU, and CMO staff.
The same launching event was held at the District Health Society in Peren, where Dr. Lanuakum, Dy. CMO, gave a brief PowerPoint presentation on SAANS. He provided an overview of SAANS and its goals.
The program was also launched in Tening CHC and Ahthibung PHC.
