In response to the work order dated December 15 for the improvement of road from Artang junction to Police Point via IMDH, issued by the Urban Engineering Wing, Government of Nagaland to the contractor, the Core Committee of the four wards – Penli, Majakong, Lijaba Lijen and Artang – have called off the proposed ‘Total Vehicular Bandh’ that was to be imposed from December 16.

 

“The contract has been taken up by Mar Pongener, who is also in charge of the IMDH construction,” said Lanulemba, convener of the Core Committee. He also stated that minor repairs such as paving stones will be done on December 16, for which entry and exit from Police Point will be blocked from 9:00 AM till 1:00 PM on 16 December “for smooth functioning of the road repair.”

 

The commuters traveling towards IMDH from Police Point have also been advised to take the entry from Luke Sasong junction in Artang ward.

 

“In January, repairs, blacktopping, and maintenance will be completed. The core committee met with the contractor today and has asked him to complete the work between January 10 – 15, 2023,” he added.

 

The convener went on to say that the four youth associations, along with the core committee will inspect the road’s repair works and hold the contractor accountable if it is found to be not satisfactory.

 

The Core Committee convener also thanked the four wards for their unity, stating that it would not have been possible without their cooperation. He thanked all organizations for their assistance, including the Ao Senden, OKM, MTLT, AWUMT, and the media.

 

According to the December 15 work order from the Urban Engineering Wing, the sanction for the said work was issued at the same rates as the NPWD Schedule of Rates 2021, totaling Rs.122.09 Lakhs.

 

The order also mentioned terms and conditions where it stated that the stipulated time for completion is three months from the date of commencement of work and that the defect liability period is for one year from the date of completion.

 

“Any damage/ defects detected shall be corrected by the contractor on their own without which security money will be forfeited and the same will be made good by the Engineer-in-Charge,” it further added.
