Mokokchung, September 28 (MTNews): The four youth associations of Penli Ward, Majakong Ward, Lijaba Lijen Ward and Artang Ward on Tuesday said in a joint statement that the department of Urban Development has told them that the maintenance of the IMDH Road will start from the last week of October following the end of the rainy season. However, according to the Association, the department has told them that they were “not in a state to temporarily repair the road in order to make it motorable before the work commences.”
The four youth associations in their joint statement also conveyed appreciation to the government for allocating funds for maintenance of the IMDH Road, Mokokchung and has requested that the sanctioned amount be released by October so that maintenance works can be started.
According to Nagaland Chief Minister’s announcement last Thursday in the 12th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, a sum of Rs. 1.07 crore has been sanctioned for “road maintenance of Mokokchung town” which was reportedly for IMDH Road.
The four youth associations also mentioned that they have served a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung on the matter but since they were “never called for a formal discussion and no intimation was given” to them, they instead met the Urban Development Officials to discuss the matter.
Accordingly, when the four youth associations asked the UDO regarding the start of the ‘maintenance works’ or ‘whether the road will be done by the concerned Department or Contractor and whether any first aid repair will be initiated by the concerned Department before the work starts,” the concerned department has reportedly told them that the maintenance of the road will start from October last week after the rainy season.
The Four Youth Association, while urging the government to “sanction the amount as soon as possible,” has requested the “concerned department/Contractors/whoever does the work” to construct the road as per the Detailed Project Report and stated that they will keep an eye as a watchdog.
The ‘Four Ward Youth Association’ in conclusion requested the general public to “kindly bear with the road condition.”
