Imkong L Imchen graces Chavang Kut celebration at Kisama

The Kuki Union Kohima celebrated Chavang Kut 2025 under the theme “Unity through Culture” on November 1 at Bamboo Hall, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.

The celebration was graced by Imkong L. Imchen, MLA and Advisor, Information and Public Relations, and Soil and Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland, as the special guest.

In his address, Imchen highlighted that the Kuki community, as a tribe and race, possesses a distinct identity and rich cultural heritage. Recalling the tragic family massacre in a village under Athibung Circle, which he had visited and where he made some contributions, and the recent confrontation witnessed in Manipur, he expressed hope that such incidents and violence would never be repeated. He emphasized the need for more stringent law and order mechanisms to maintain peace and harmony.

Imchen further noted that the Kukis have been part of the region’s political journey since the time of the Simon Commission and acknowledged their contributions to the beginning of Naga political history. He also mentioned the representation of the Kuki community in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Highlighting the significance of Mim Kut and Chavang Kut festivals, he added that the celebration held at Kisama was beautifully organized.

The programme began with an invocation by Rev. Khupma Hangsing, followed by a welcome address delivered by Paokeng Sitlhou, Convenor of the Chavang Kut Committee. Paokhokam Singson spoke on the significance of Chavang Kut, while the Küki Cha Kahiuve was coordinated by Hentinlun Vaiphei, Joint Secretary, Kuki Union Kohima.

Cultural performances included a traditional dance presented by the KSUK St. Joseph College Unit and a special song by Thanggoumin Haolai. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Doumang Sitlhou, Chairman, Kuki Union Kohima.

The celebration saw the presence of representatives from several public organizations, including the Angami Public Organization (APO), Kohima Ao Telongjem, SAYO, Sumi Union, Konyak Union Kohima, Nagaland Mizo Welfare Association, and Zeliang Union Kohima, among others.

The Union also acknowledged Advisor Imkong L. Imchen and Dr. Tsielhoutuo Ato Rhutso, MLA, for the assistance extended to the Union during the celebration.
