The two-day celebration of the Sükrünye festival of the Chakhesang tribe began with a cultural program at the local ground in Phek on January 14, 2025. The Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Government of Nagaland, Temjen Imna Along, graced the occasion as the Cultural Guest of the Day.

In his address, Minister Imna Along strongly urged and appealed to the people of the district to come forward, put efforts into maintaining peace and unity, and work together for the betterment of the state as a whole.

Imna Along also expressed his appreciation to the Central Government for the ongoing construction of vehicular roads (NHs) in the state, including in Phek district. He emphasized the importance of paying taxes for development, stating that “we should pay tax to the government for the progress and development of our state.”

As the cultural guest of the occasion, Imna Along extended his appreciation to the people of Chakhesang in particular, and the Tenyimia in general, for preserving their rich culture and traditions in a special manner. He, however, stated that since we have accepted Christianity, we should worship our Savior Christ Jesus and, in His name, work towards bringing unity in the state alongside preserving our rich cultural heritage and practices.

Folk songs and dances from Bible Hill and Mission Compound Ward, along with competitions in folk song, top fight, ululating, and push of war, were the highlights of the program.
