Lumami, 23 November (MTNews): The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Nagaland University on 23 November organized a Gender Sensitization Program at NU headquarters Lumami with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik as the chief patron. The event proved to be a comprehensive initiative, delving into various dimensions of gender equality and sensitization.
The active participation of faculty members from different departments and diverse speakers significantly enriched the discussions.
During the event, Prof. Talijungla from the Department of Botany emphasized the crucial responsibilities outlined in the ICC and UGC Regulations of 2015. These regulations mandate the implementation of the Internal Complaints Committee in higher educational institutions to effectively address issues related to sexual harassment and gender discrimination. Research scholars also contributed to the program with a beautiful song, adding a creative touch to the proceedings.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik’s made positive comments regarding the social status of Naga women and the absence of sexual harassment complaints within the university, reflecting a supportive environment. The program delved into pertinent topics such as the struggles faced by educated Naga women concerning gender equality, discrimination, and sexual harassment in society. Insights from Arenla Longkumer and Prof. Toshimenla shed light on these challenges.
The inclusion of Watsu Mungdang and a captivating song performance by research scholars brought an engaging and cultural dimension to the event. The program covered a broad spectrum of subjects related to gender sensitization, ranging from legal aspects to societal perceptions.
Registrar Dr Abemo, along with other officials, faculties, and students, actively participated in the Gender Sensitization Program, signifying institutional support and a collective interest in addressing gender-related issues within the university. Their presence contributed to the discussions, underscoring the importance of gender equality initiatives at Nagaland University.
The welcome address was delivered by Angunuo Kieya, Deputy Registrar, Finance, while the program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Latonglila, acknowledging the collective effort and commitment to fostering a gender-sensitive environment within Nagaland University.
