Two factions of the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) — which emerged following an internal split within the GPRN/NSCN (Unification) — came together for a joint meeting with the Government of India’s interlocutor, AK Mishra, on Thursday at the Nagaland Police Complex, Chümoukedima.

This marked the first formal engagement involving both factions since the split, and signals a potential thaw in relations amid the larger Naga peace process. The meeting was followed by a separate session between Mishra and the NSCN-K (Niki Sumi) faction at the same venue.

Following the meeting, WC-NNPG Convener N Kitovi Zhimomi said both factions had resolved to not allow past differences to stand in the way of progress. He described the meeting as productive and focused on charting the way forward in the ongoing political dialogue with New Delhi.

Echoing similar sentiments, Working Convenor Isak Sumi, representing the group led by Neopkao Konyak, said the intention was to promote unity among all Naga political groups and stakeholders. “The ultimate objective is for all Naga political groups to come together, reach a consensus, and collectively pursue a final solution,” he told the media.

Sumi emphasized that the engagement is not confined to just the two WC-NNPG factions. “The effort is larger than any individual faction—it’s about building a collective political voice,” he said.

Regarding whether the Government of India recognized the existence of two separate WC-NNPG factions, Sumi responded that the status quo remains unchanged, implying that both factions are being engaged separately at present. “It is not about platforms—it is about representatives sitting across the table for dialogue, even if they come from different entities,” he explained.

No date has been set for the next meeting, but both Zhimomi and Sumi expressed hope that the peace process will gain momentum.

Those present during the joint meeting included senior leaders from both sides: N Kitovi Zhimomi, Isak Sumi, Alezo Venuh, Hokato Vusshe, P Tikhak, Starson Lamkang, Akato Chophy, and others.
