Mokokchung, January 27 (MTNews): As per the Nagaland Transport Department’s Notification issued on 28th October of 2019, and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 95 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Government of Nagaland has notified that the ceiling limit for issuing of two-wheeler taxi permits in Mokokchung District shall be seventy-five.
Purnungsang Longkumer, Motor Vehicles Officer, RTO Mokokchung informed Mokokchung Times that out of seventy-five two-wheeler taxi permits allocated to the district, only 10 has been issued till now. When inquired why only 10 permits have been issued, he hinted at low turnout of applicants. He further mentioned that individuals interested in applying for the permit can do so by either writing an application to the RTO addressing the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) or visit the office where the process will be duly explained.
“The driver of the two-wheeler taxi shall wear yellow helmet and yellow half-vest with an inscription ‘TAXI’ on the back of the helmet and vest. The pillion rider shall wear a uniform color code of yellow helmet,” he explained.
Alempang Youth Association, Mokokchung in an attempt to help the youths of the Ward find employment, have taken five two-wheeler taxi permits.
Supongasang, an executive member of AYA, mentioned that the organization launched the project on October 1 of 2020 with a vision to promote and encourage ‘financial independence and self-reliance’ amongst the youth. Currently, two of the riders are working full-time and the fare within Mokokchung Municipal Area does not exceed more than a hundred rupees.
