In a disturbing incident on the night of April 18, 2025, military personnel reportedly took a local man, Pango, from his home in Tizit between 10:30 and 10:45 pm, without providing any explanation or informing the local authorities.

According to sources, Pango’s family immediately contacted the Nagaland Police, only to learn that neither the police nor the Assam Rifles stationed in Tizit were informed about the operation.

The family, along with the Nagaland Police, traced the military personnel to the Sikh Regiment camp in Maibella, Assam. However, they were denied entry and given no information about Pango’s whereabouts or the reasons for his detention.

“We were left outside their camp until 2:45 am, waiting for a response,” a relative of Pango reported.

Locals criticized the army for crossing state lines without following proper protocols and for showing a disregard for standard operating procedures (SOPs).

After significant pressure from Nagaland Police, the army eventually released Pango at the Assam-Nagaland Bridge, sources said.

This incident raises serious concerns regarding the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), as well as the coordination between military forces and local law enforcement. The Oting incident, still fresh in the minds of many, adds to the growing apprehension about military operations in the region.
