Indian football legend Baichung Bhutia to attend closing of WSSA 25th anniversary in Niuland

Niuland, 23 February (MTNews): The closing ceremony of the silver jubilee edition of the WSSA (Western Sümi Sports Association) MBE Zhuikhu Memorial Trophy Gold Cup is scheduled for February 29, 2024. The event will be graced by star guest Baichung Bhutia, former Indian football captain and advisor to WSSA, along with Hekani Jakhalu, Advisor for Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland, who will be the Guest of Honour.

A press release issued by the WSSA Media and Publicity Cell informed that Baichung Bhutia and Renedy Singh, also former Indian Football Captain and assistant coach of the Indian Super League club Bengaluru FC, currently serve as advisors to the Western Sumi Sports Association.

Under their support and coordination, a training session for 11 coaches in the Western Sumi region took place in Siliguri. This region comprises 11 areas and 187 villages. The coaches, trained by British coach Mr. Richard, aimed to provide basic training and identify young talents at the grassroots level, creating a platform for their representation at professional levels.

Under the close guidance of Baichung Bhutia and Renedy Singh, the association plans to send two talented football players for professional coaching as a pilot project.

The press release emphasized the current need for infrastructure, excellent schools, training institutions, and a professional approach in various disciplines to nurture young talents for the future.

The association is committed to making dedicated and innovative efforts in this regard, sharing its experiences to contribute to collective growth in the state’s sports field, including underprivileged individuals.
