The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has accused the Indian intelligence agency of launching a highly orchestrated social media campaign aimed at creating divisions within the NSCN and inciting tribal sentiments. This operation, the NSCN-IM said in a press release on Sunday, involves using fictitious Naga names from certain tribes to write provocative articles.

A recent example cited by the NSCN-IM includes an article titled “Muivah is a Problem, Not the Solution,” followed by a counter-article “Rendering Political Education to Zavisituo Angami,” both of which have been widely circulated on social media.

The NSCN claimed that a fictitious Tangkhul name was used as the author of the initial article and that the names of revered Naga leaders, AZ Phizo and Th. Muivah, were misused to stir conflict between the Angamis and the Tangkhuls.

“These articles were made to go viral on social media platforms. The irony is we could see through the carefully considered social media strategy with the filthiest purposes, the most disgusting kind of propaganda that played with the sanctity of Naga national leaders,” the NSCN-IM’s statement read.

Calls for respect and appreciation of AZ Phizo

The NSCN-IM further stated, “AZ Phizo and Th. Muivah have their respective places in the history of the Naga political struggle. It was because of their tireless work that the world came to know better about the political rights and identity of the Nagas as a people and as a nation.”

The statement highlighted that AZ Phizo led the Nagas from the front, declared Naga independence, and conducted the Naga plebiscite to reaffirm the sovereign will of the Naga people to live as an independent sovereign nation. The NSCN-IM emphasized that the Naga people, both young and old, must appreciate and give due honor and respect to AZ Phizo for his contributions.

“He dedicated his entire life bearing the unbearable burden of living in exile in London until his last breath. Had there been no Phizo who had done so much for the political cause of the Nagas, the political status of the Nagas today would have been a different story,” the NSCN-IM stated.

Regarding Th. Muivah, it noted that he played a significant role in the Naga political movement, working with tireless commitment to the political goals laid down by AZ Phizo. His leadership led to the recognition of Naga sovereignty by the Government of India, as reflected in the historic Framework Agreement of 3rd August 2015.

“The political significance of the agreement pointed to the recognition of the Naga independence declaration on 14th August 1947 and the Naga plebiscite of 16th May 1951 to reaffirm the Naga independence as the sovereign will of the Naga people,” the statement added.

The statement asserted that the Nagas would not be naïve enough to be misled by the communal divisive propaganda waged by Indian intelligence to erode the NSCN-IM.

It also alleged that India is engaging in a proxy war against the NSCN-IM through a well-established nexus between the KNA(B) and PDF with the Assam Rifles (AR).
