Indian Navy Chief calls for increased representation of Agniveers from Ladakh and Northeast

New Delhi, 3 July (MTNews): In a bid to promote inclusivity and diversity within the Indian Navy, Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of the Indian Navy, has expressed the need for more Agniveers from Ladakh and the Northeast region to join the Navy.

The Agniveer scheme, which aims to create opportunities for talented individuals across the country, currently boasts representation from approximately 656 districts. However, Admiral R Hari Kumar highlighted the need for greater representation from Ladakh and the Northeast, acknowledging that their current presence in the Navy is disproportionately small.

 

In an interview, Admiral R Hari Kumar emphasized the Indian Navy’s commitment to expanding its outreach mission through the Agniveer scheme. He stated, “The Indian Navy has started the outreach mission with the Agniveer scheme which currently has representation from around 656 districts of the country in the Navy.”

However, he noted that the representation from Ladakh and the Northeast region remains minimal in comparison, prompting the Navy’s desire for change.
