Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Thursday reviewed the progress of the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) — the national multi-stakeholder platform driving India’s sixth-generation wireless innovation.

During the high-level interaction, held alongside Telecom Secretary Dr Neeraj Mittal, the Bharat 6G Alliance presented comprehensive updates on the country’s readiness to lead globally in 6G by 2030. Key working group Chairpersons showcased detailed action plans and technological advancements made since the last review in September 2024.

“The Government is fully committed to enabling this transition through robust policy frameworks, increased research funding, and timely spectrum allocation,” said Scindia, emphasizing the Centre’s support for the next generation of communication technologies.

The B6GA’s working groups—comprising Chairpersons, Vice-Chairpersons, and industry stakeholders—highlighted strategic progress in Indigenous Radio Access Network (RAN) technologies, intelligent and inclusive networks for rural areas, and 6G applications in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and smart cities.

A notable feature of the review was the Alliance’s expansion to over 80 member organizations, including more than 30 startups, indicating growing national momentum for homegrown 6G innovation.

The Minister urged the Alliance to maintain focused and strategic planning, while calling for regular progress reviews across all working groups. He stressed that India must aim to contribute at least 10% of global Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in 6G technology.

“The Bharat 6G Alliance must drive innovation with clarity and accountability. Achieving 10% of the world’s 6G IPRs is an ambitious but necessary target,” Scindia said.

The Bharat 6G Alliance was established following the release of the Bharat 6G Vision Document in March 2023, which laid out India’s strategic roadmap to become a leader in sixth-generation wireless systems.

B6GA brings together academia, startups, industry, and public institutions to foster a future-ready 6G ecosystem through innovation, R&D, and global standard-setting.

The review meeting also included interactions with over 100 telecom leaders and stakeholders, reinforcing the collaborative nature of India’s push toward a tech-powered future.
