The Union Health Ministry has announced that a man who recently traveled from a country with mpox transmission has been identified as a suspected case of the disease. The Ministry confirmed on Sunday, September 8, 2024, that the patient is currently isolated at a designated hospital and is in stable condition.

According to the Ministry, samples have been collected from the patient and are undergoing testing to confirm the presence of mpox. “The case is being managed in line with established protocols, and contact tracing is ongoing to identify potential sources and assess the impact within the country,” the Ministry stated.

The Ministry stated that this development aligns with the earlier risk assessment conducted by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). There is no cause for undue concern, as the situation is being handled appropriately. The country has robust measures in place to manage and mitigate any potential risk associated with isolated travel-related cases, it said.

“The country is fully prepared to deal with such isolated cases and has effective protocols to address and manage any potential threat,” the Ministry added.
