An Instagram account with the username ‘BootBungalow,’ boasting approximately 57.4k followers and featuring a WhatsApp link in its profile, has been reported as a ‘scam’ by recent online customers from Nagaland, including students of FAC (Fazl Ali College) in Mokokchung.

Instagram scam

In an effort to raise awareness, Nchumthung and his friend Amos, both students of FAC, called Mokokchung Times to share their experience. They revealed that the products they had ordered from the Instagram user ‘BootBungalow’ last week did not match the items they had ordered when the goods arrived today, 12 September; instead, they received cheaper alternatives inferior in quality. When they attempted to seek clarification, the students alleged that the seller had blocked their phone numbers.

Amos explained that they had made multiple attempts to contact ‘BootBungalow’ through various phone numbers, but the seller only responded when they asked, from a new number, whether the seller sold shoes or not. Any further inquiries about the products led to their numbers being blocked, the students added.

According to the students, they are not the only victims, as a similar incident has also occurred between one of their friends in Wokha district, Nagaland, and the same ‘BootBungalow’ account. They mentioned that they had initially trusted the seller due to the substantial number of followers, positive customer reviews shared on Instagram stories, and the presence of a WhatsApp contact in the seller’s profile.

The students clarified that they had not filed a complaint with the police but reached out to this newspaper to raise awareness among the public.
