Team Saturday, Merasen, Morung Boys United FC, and title defenders N Obang MFT advance to semifinals
The 14th Marsosang Football Trophy 2025 quarterfinals took place at the Langpangkong Tzükong GHS, Chuchuyimlang playground, Mokokchung, producing thrilling matches and close finishes.
In the first quarterfinal, Vision SC and Team Saturday ended regular time in a thrilling 5-5 draw, but Team Saturday emerged victorious 7-6 in the tiebreaker. Yahok led Vision SC’s charge with a hat-trick at the 20th, 60th, and 71st minutes, supported by goals from Supongyanger (33’) and Sunep (47’). Team Saturday took an early lead through Renjamo in the 2nd minute, while Tarepnungsang scored a hat-trick with goals at the 14th, 45+1’, and 65th minutes. The match also saw disciplinary actions with yellow cards for Vision SC’s Shahdok and Team Saturday’s Meyipokba, and a red card for Vision SC’s Imtimenba.
Morung Boys United secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Tongpangsanger Club in the second quarterfinal, with the match kept alive until the final moments. Ngansang opened the scoring for Morung Boys United just before halftime at 45+1 minutes. Tongpangsanger fought back fiercely, with Bharat Rai leveling the score in the 65th minute and Imsuwapang putting them ahead at 72 minutes. However, Morung Boys United staged a dramatic late comeback as Homang scored twice in stoppage time, at 88 and 90+1 minutes, turning the game on its head and sealing a hard-fought win. The intense encounter saw yellow cards for Tongpangsanger’s Akanglemba, Ayu, and Sakotemsu.
The third quarterfinal saw Merasen defeat United Brothers 4-2. United Brothers took an early lead through Panger in the 19th minute. However, Merasen quickly responded as Temjenmoa ignited the comeback with his first of three goals at the 28th minute to level the score. Nungsangtoshi restored the lead for United Brothers in the 40th minute, but Yangchet equalized for Merasen in the 48th minute. Temjenmoa then scored two goals in quick succession in the 79th and 80th minutes, sealing the win and completing his hat-trick. Yellow cards were shown to Merasen’s Yangchet and Tongpangnungshi, and United Brothers’ Meren.
In the fourth quarterfinal, defending champions N Obang MFT won 3-1 over Marsosang SC with all four goals of the match being scored in the first half. Ritsho Mero (20’), Eshong Konyak (26’), and Suponglemba (36’) scored for N Obang MFT, while Koko (22’) scored for Marsosang SC. Salangwati of N Obang MFT received a yellow card.
The semifinals will see Team Saturday face Merasen on December 12 at 10:00 AM, followed by Morung Boys United FC versus N Obang MFT at 1:00 PM.
