Wokha, 6 October (MTNews): The first inter-school Sepaktakraw tournament organized by the Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association (WDSA-Sepak) kicked off today at the Local Ground in Wokha, with Y Orenbomo Lotha, DPO, Wokha, as the special guest.

Y Orenbomo Lotha advised the students to take a keen interest in the field of sports, informing them that sports personalities are highly respected and serve as idols to the people. He also mentioned that they enjoy a good fortune and lifestyle. He further noted that the Indian government recognizes sports personalities and even awards high-ranking government officials. He informed the students to maintain discipline, as sports require dedication, physical fitness, and mental wellness.

 

In his speech, Lirhonthung E Kithan, President of the Lotha Student’ Union, urged students to avoid intoxicants, embrace sportsmanship in the tournament, and strive to become professionals. He appreciated K Libemo Jami’s efforts in improving sports in the district.

 

T Thungchibemo Lotha, President of WDSA, in his welcome address, highlighted the formation of the Sepaktakraw Association in Wokha district and expressed gratitude for the support of DYRO cum DSO Wokha. He mentioned that WDSA-Sepak, formed in 2021, secured the runner-up position in the 2022 inter-district Sepaktakraw tournament in Nagaland. He encouraged students to excel in Sepaktakraw, a cost-effective sport, and mentioned its potential for the Naga community to represent the nation and state, citing two Nagaland girls at the Asian Games 2023.

 

In total, 16 teams from five schools are participating in three categories: under 14, under 17 for men, and senior girls.
