The importance of and need for intergenerational learning is increasingly becoming relevant today as society progresses at a pace unmatched. In the olden days, intergenerational learning happened on a daily basis. For instance, young boys in the Arju or girls in the Tsüki had plenty of time to learn from their elders. However, today, intergenerational learning is becoming a rarity, so much so that it is slowly disappearing even at the family level. Intergenerational learning opportunities, say between grandparents and grandchildren, are disappearing due to various factors.

Intergenerational learning activities help younger generations learn local customs and practices while the older generation can also learn from the youngsters in various ways, like technological applications. Understanding each other’s views and values will allow different generations to increase their appreciation of one another. This, in turn, will lead to better intergenerational communication and collaboration. Moreover, in a society like ours, there are so many values and knowledge that the young can inherit from the older generation.

Research and findings have been done on the benefits of intergenerational learning. Perhaps, a way to promote intergenerational learning experience can be promoted by the church in a conscious manner. Seminars and workshops are conducted on a lot of issues but rarely on intergenerational learning.
