Tensions within the District Congress Committee (DCC) Tuensang have escalated, with the Vice President and General Secretary of the committee announcing drastic measures in response to unresolved grievances. In a statement, the two leaders cited the “negligence of the NPCC and authority concerned” in addressing the issue, declaring that the DCC office will be “sealed/locked until a justifiable decision is met.” They further instructed all party workers to “refrain from any activities of the party until the matter is resolved” and disclaimed responsibility for any “untoward incidents” that may arise.

Sources indicate that the unrest stems from allegations against the DCC Tuensang President, who has been accused of acting in “personal interest.” Agitators have called for his removal, intensifying the internal strife.

The controversy was addressed in a November 5 meeting held at Congress Bhavan, Tuensang, where 90% of committee members participated, underscoring the gravity of the issue. During the discussions, members expressed concerns about anti-party activities and emphasized the need for decisive action to preserve unity and effectiveness within the committee.

The embattled DCC President, in his address, urged members to remain patient and assured them that the issue would be handled through established protocols. Despite the ongoing agitation, members at the meeting reaffirmed their support for his leadership.

Responding to the turmoil, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President and Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir told MT that the matter was “between the family members of DCC Tuensang.” He revealed that the NPCC has constituted a five-member inquiry committee led by NPCC Working President C Apok Jamir to address the grievances. “We are going to settle amicably with the larger interest of the party,” Jamir said.

Vice President of the NPCC, GK Zhimomi, echoed similar sentiments, confirming that the inquiry committee would convene shortly. “They may have their reasons to be aggrieved, but let the inquiry committee address that,” Zhimomi stated when asked about the DCC’s decision to shut down its office, citing negligence by the NPCC.

As the inquiry committee prepares to meet, the situation highlights the challenges of internal discord within party ranks and its potential impact on broader party cohesion. The outcome of the inquiry will be closely watched, with significant implications for the Congress party’s standing in Tuensang and beyond.
