Mokokchung, 21 February (MTNews): Jubilee Memorial College celebrated International Mother Language Day on 21st February at the college campus. Dr Kilangnaro, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies, shared thoughts on the preservation of native dialects and understanding our roots because it allows us to understand who we are.

She said, “Losing our native language is not just losing a language but also losing a connection with our culture, family, and identity. In current Naga society, there are many who cannot speak their mother tongue.”

She emphasized the preservation of languages, which should begin at home, adding that parents have a big role to play.

The program was initiated by the Department of English. Moasenla Imchen conducted the program in Mangmetong dialect and translated it into English.

Different recitations and song presentations such as Zowi Keleu Eyimi, Tiyari Osü Taba Nü Tongtibang, Gharko Diyo Balena Aaama, Langzütepa Atenba Ken, Koralong, Kiphimi Kuxu, Süng Long Külem were performed by students from different communities in their mother tongue.
