Along with the rest of the world, Nagaland observed ‘World Earth Day’ on 22nd April, a day that aims to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote conservation efforts to protect our planet.
It is also a day to remind us of our responsibility to take care of the planet and protect it for future generations and create a sustainable and environmentally friendly world beginning with individuals, businesses, and governments working together. This year’s Earth Day was based on the theme ‘Invest in our Planet’.
Taking to twitter, Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio tweeted, “On this Earth Day, may it inspire us to re-evaluate our steps to preserve and conserve the environment around us. Focusing on environmental issues and taking efforts to spread awareness on sustainable living is investing in our planet.”
Meanwhile, in Mokokchung, Fazl Ali College (FAC), Mokokchung, celebrated the day by organizing a program on the benefits of bamboo and how to plant bamboo which was initiated by the Eco Club of FAC.
C Imli Jamir, Executive Member, Land Donors Association, FAC speaking as the resource person explained about the benefits of bamboo planting. He also enlightened the students on how to plant bamboo stumps and in what season. After the formal session, the entire group also participated in planting bamboo.
In the program, Rev Lima Lemtur, Pastor, Union Church FAC campus pronounced an invocation followed by an exposition by Dr Temjensangla Pongener, Convener, Eco Club, FAC and a brief exhortation by Dr I Wati Imchen, Principal, FAC.
Lipokyanger Lemtur, publicity officer, Eco Club, FAC informed that it was a very educational session, with the eco club members engaging in physical activities and learning about the benefits and dos and don’ts while planting bamboo.
Simultaneously, just a few kilometers away from Mokokchung Town, Nagaland University Lumami conducted a plantation drive to commemorate the day which was led by Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University at Rajiv Gandhi Park, Nagaland University Lumami.
During the plantation drive, the plantation saplings included tree species such as Golden Trumpet, Spanish Cherry, Pine, Rain Tree, Burmese grape and Hog Plum. Some tree saplings were also provided to the University for the Plantation Drive by the Department of Forest Mokokchung. According to PRO i/c Ashish Kumar, the tree saplings were distributed to the various hostels under Nagaland University and participants for the plantation drive.
Delivering his Earth Day message, Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, informed that Nagaland University is one of the few Universities which has been sponsored by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India for observing Earth Day-2023 and stressed on the need to be more aware about environment sustainability.
The day was marked with events such as painting competition and plantation drive which was conducted at Dept of Geography Conference Hall on the theme “Invest in our Planet”.
The gathering was led by Dr Kedovikho Yhoshü, Nodal Officer Earth Day 2023. Dr Shanta Singh Naorem, painting competition convener gave a highlight on the competition and altogether 14 awards were handed out to the winners by the VC.

I was wondering if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
