Imlisenla Jamir of Süngratsü village, residing in Tongdentsüyong ward, Mokokchung is the owner of C and C Home Bakery which she started in 2020 during the pandemic.

According to her, baking was something she never thought of doing but she enjoyed the food. However, when the pandemic hit and the shops shut down and boredom hit hard, she finally developed an interest in baking after watching the food channels in YouTube.

The first compliment she received on her baking skill was for the cake she baked at her mother’s suggestion which her mother intended to gift her friend on Mother’s Day. With compliments and lots of support thrown at her from her family, whom she regards as her greatest support system, she decided to turn baking her thing in the hope of becoming financially independent at least to a small measure.

According to her, the most difficult thing about baking was the investment of time and patience it demanded.

“It’s a very accurate process and even the slightest disruption results in a not so friendly product. So, you have to be extremely precise starting from the measuring of the ingredients to the decorations and final touches and the packaging,” she said.

She also added that there’s no shortcut to baking.
“However, the hardest thing especially for me is the cleaning and washing up the mess in creating the art,” she laughed.

Currently pursuing her master’s degree in mathematics at Nagaland University, she admitted that balancing life between academics and baking has been quite challenging, but with proper time management and immense help from her three little brothers, it has been manageable.

“Without the help from them, I wouldn’t have been able to come this far,” she said.

Along with cream cake and regular cakes, she also bakes Cupcake, Swiss Rolls, Muffins, Cookies, Pizzas and doughnuts.

“Lately, I bake pizzas and doughnuts only on weekends because of my classes. Nutty muffins are becoming a tea-time favourite for many old people and I hope to introduce more new stuff in the days to come,” she said.

Talking about the cake designs, she said she mostly goes according to her customer’s choice but sometimes enjoys decorating it with her creative art.

Although her business has been going smoothly with love and support showering from her customers, she believes that baking is a continuous learning process where every mistake teaches another new thing.

“I’m keeping my mind open towards making this a joyful experience,” she said.

She then proceeded to talk about how she made sure that the best and fresh ingredients are used as she believe in the saying, “Good food, good mood.”

“The progress of C and C Home is all because of the love, support and feedback that I get. It keeps me going and makes me more passionate about what I do and strives to work harder. Because at the end of the day, it is the smile and the happiness of the customer that matter,” she said.

“I never knew this space was for me but now baking is my happy place and a hobby that has brought so much relaxation and good memories. Thank you all for trusting me. I’m very grateful to everyone who supported and helped me grow. It’s also a reminder that nothing worthwhile comes easily; work continuously and work hard, to accomplish one’s dream. Always trust yourself. I wish all the bakers and baking lovers a very happy World Baking Day,” she concluded.
