Mokokchung, August 8 (MTNews): The Joint Action Committee (Workers’ Union and Pensioners’ Union) of Nagaland Pulp and Paper Co Ltd has reminded the government of Nagaland that it will go ahead with its protest along NH-61 Tzudikong, Mokokchung from August 12.

 

In a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, government of Nagaland, the JAC said that the decision to hold the protest was taken because workers of the NPPCL have not been paid salaries since August, 2017. Further, it stated that the superannuated/retired employees and employees who died in harness have not been given terminal/retiral/pensionary dues from October 2015.

 

“The decision to hold the proposed protest/bandh has been taken by the JAC after numerous plea which included written representations and also requests in person to concerned authorities failed to bring forth any positive response,” the memorandum read.

 

It was also mentioned that the decision to hold the protest along the National Highway was a measure taken only after exhausting many steps imploring the concerned authorities to address the dire plight of the members of JAC. “In spite of the Notice to all authorities concerned regarding the protest/bandh by the JAC from 12.8.2022, no effective efforts/steps have been taken by the authorities concerned to mitigate/redress the grievances of the members of the JAC,” it added.

 

JAC informed that, as such, they resolved to go ahead with the protest from August 12 till their grievances are addressed satisfactorily. However, vehicular movement of military, para military, police, administration, medical, press and vans carrying milk will be exempted from the bandh.

 

JAC also informed that the protest is “not only being supported but assurance has also been given by the major civil society organizations of the area of their participation.” JAC also informed that no further notice shall be given for holding the said protest/bandh.
