Assistant Director, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Nongozo Rikha through a press release reported that 1,56,984 households were provided Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) as of April 1, 2022 in Nagaland. According to the report, the total number of rural households at present stands at 3, 77,286 which means only 41.61% households have received the FHTC.
Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is a flagship program of the Government of India, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation which aims to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every rural household of the country by 2024. The scheme was launched on August 15, 2019. The Mission is being implemented in Nagaland by the Public Health Engineering Department.
The JJM activities also include the provision of drinking water at 55 litres per capita per day (lPcd), support activities that focus on Information, Education & Communication (IEC) activities and capacity building for the rural communities to manage the completed schemes by themselves, and Water Quality Monitoring & Surveillance (WQMS) which focuses on water quality aspects.
