Mokokchung, February 21 (MTNews): Jubilee Memorial College, Mokokchung celebrated the 24th International Mother Tongue Day under the theme ‘Multilingual education- A Necessity to Transform Education’ at the college premises today. The event was organized by the Department of English, JMC.

 

Arenla Longkumer, President, Watsü Mungdang, being felicitated by the students of Jubilee Memorial College during the celebration of the 24th International Mother Tongue Day on 21 February.

 

Arenla Longkumer, President, Watsü Mungdang was the guest speaker at the event. She expressed the importance of promoting language and culture and said that “language is the primary tool and the most powerful instrument to promote education.” She also highlighted the importance of multilingual education and how it frames one’s thoughts and emotions.

 

The welcome address was given by Dr Imtiwati Jamir, Principal, JMC who also emphasized on “the primary importance of mother tongue” in his speech.

 

Highlights of the day included several presentations by the students from different ethnicities and a Spell Bee competition in Chungli Ao.

 

The first place in the Spelling Bee was secured by Sashimenla (Semester VI), the second place by Talimenla (Semester IV) and the third place by Imkongmeren (Semester VI).
