JMC holds NSS orientation programme to inspire students towards community service

Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), Mokokchung, held an NSS Orientation Programme at JMC Hall on August 7 to familiarise students with the objectives, values and activities of the National Service Scheme and encourage them towards community service.

The programme began with the National Anthem led by Ms Liju Achumi, BA 5, followed by a welcome address by Principal Dr Imtiwati Jamir. He stressed that education should extend beyond the classroom and prepare students to contribute meaningfully to society. Quoting, “Little drops of water make a mighty ocean,” he encouraged students to participate actively in community service and nation-building.

A special song by Sentijungla was followed by a token of appreciation to the resource person.

Dr I. Tovishe Phucho, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Nagaland University, Lumami, and NSS Programme Coordinator, delivered the keynote address on “Inspiring Youth Through Selfless Service”. He spoke on the history, objectives, structure and activities of NSS, noting that it was launched on September 24, 1969, with 37 universities and 40,000 student volunteers. He highlighted the NSS motto, “Not Me But You,” and explained the requirement of 240 hours of voluntary service over two years for the NSS certificate.

Etilila Jamir shared her experience at the North East NSS Youth Festival, highlighting cultural exposure, teamwork and personal growth.

Dheeraj Kumar, District Youth Officer, My Bharat, Mokokchung, spoke on “Empowering Youth for Community Development and Nation Building”. He urged students to develop character, avoid social evils and use their potential for positive change.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Tzutiden Longkumer, My Bharat Ambassador, JMC, followed by the College Anthem.
