The 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) has firmly rejected the Nagaland government’s request to reconsider its proposed agitation, declaring that its protest over the reservation policy in government employment will proceed as scheduled on May 29, 2025.

The committee’s decision follows a formal letter from the Home Commissioner, dated May 25 and received today, which informed the CoRRP that a state-appointed panel had been constituted on May 7 to review the reservation policy. The panel, the letter stated, has been mandated to submit its findings within three months.

However, in a statement released after consulting the apex bodies of the five tribes—Angami, Ao, Lotha, Rengma, and Sumi—the CoRRP said the government’s communication “lacks sincere commitment” and “fails to address our core concerns.” These concerns, the committee reiterated, had already been outlined in a memorandum submitted to the government on September 20, 2024.

“The letter not only lacks sincere commitment but fails to address our core concerns,” the CoRRP stated, confirming that the planned agitation beginning May 29 will not be deferred.

Meanwhile, the Government of Nagaland has issued a meeting notice through the Home Department inviting key tribal bodies for a discussion on the reservation policy. The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister (Home), is scheduled for June 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Secretariat Conference Hall, Kohima.

According to the notification dated May 28, the following have been requested to attend the meeting: Convenor, 5 Tribes CoRRP along with 2 representatives; President, Angami Public Organisation with 2 members; President, Ao Senden with 2 members; President, Lotha Hoho with 2 members; President, Rengma Hoho with 2 members; President, Sumi Hoho with 2 members

The notice was issued by Chief Secretary Dr. J Alam, IAS. As of now, the CoRRP has not issued a response to the government’s latest invitation.
