The Joint Council Forum Dimapur has expressed concern over what it described as the persistent reckless and high-speed movement of vehicles along Tajen Ao Road, a key arterial stretch in the heart of Dimapur town, warning that the situation has turned the area into a “highly dangerous zone.”
In a statement, the Forum said the road passes through densely populated residential areas, commercial hubs, schools, educational institutions and churches, where pedestrian activity remains continuous. Despite this, heavy vehicles-including trucks, dumpers and sand carriers during permitted hours-along with smaller vehicles continue to overspeed with “blatant disregard for traffic norms and public safety.”
The Forum said the risks were underscored by the recent loss of two lives in a collision involving a motorcycle and a bicycle, which it described as “an entirely preventable incident.”
Urging immediate intervention, the Joint Council Forum called on the authorities concerned to strictly enforce speed limits, regulate the movement of heavy vehicles through populated areas, install warning signage and traffic-calming measures, and deploy traffic personnel during vulnerable hours.
“Public safety cannot be compromised, and urgent intervention is essential to prevent further loss of life and restore safety and order on this road,” the statement said.
