Joint meeting resolves wholesale price for live weight pigs in Mokokchung district

Mokokchung, 29 March (MTNews): Mokokchung district civil society organizations, the Butchers Union Mokokchung, and the suppliers of pigs to Mokokchung held a joint meeting on 29 March 2024 to discuss the wholesale rate of live weight pigs in the “stockage.”

After extensive discussions, the CSOs and pig suppliers came to a mutually agreed upon rate. It was unanimously decided to set the live weight price for pigs in Mokokchung district at a fixed rate, effective immediately. Additionally, it was stipulated that any market fluctuations must be promptly communicated to the CSOs.

Joint meeting of Mokokchung district CSOs, Butchers Union Mokokchung, and pig suppliers on 29 March resolved to fix the live weight rate of pigs at Rs 257 per kg for Mokokchung district with immediate effect.

The meeting took place in Mokokchung at the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) office and was attended by CSOs from Tzudikong, Tuli, Changtongya, and Mokokchung town. Limanungsang and Samuel Jamir chaired the meeting as seasonal president and secretary, respectively.

It may be recalled that the CSOs of Mokokchung met earlier on 12 March 2024 at the MMC Conference Hall and unanimously resolved that “The import of pigs to Mokokchung district from outside the district will be prohibited until the local pork price is settled.”

Meanwhile, it has been learned that the retail price of dressed or cut pork will be determined by the respective competent authorities of the municipal and town councils based on the live weight price negotiated today.
