The Kiphire District Commercial Vehicle Union (KDCVU), together with the Meluri District Truck Union and the Phek District Truck Union, has called on authorities to urgently address the deteriorating and hazardous condition of key road sections across the region.

A landslide-prone stretch, cited by truck unions of Phek, Meluri and Kiphire as urgently needing government repair and safety measures.

Following a joint meeting held in Meluri Town on October 11, the unions highlighted the severe risks faced by truckers, who transport essential commodities, construction materials, and other goods critical to public welfare.

Landslides, rock falls, and badly damaged roads are creating life-threatening situations and causing frequent delays in the delivery of supplies.

According to the unions, key areas of concern include the stretch between Chakhabama and Pfutsero, known for recurring landslides, and the Losami-Lanye road, where precariously positioned rocks pose constant danger. The Meluri area also faces mudslides and rock falls, while the road segment from Akhegwo to Kiphire has deteriorated to a critical level, urgently requiring maintenance.

The three unions warned that these unsafe roads are not merely an inconvenience but a threat to public safety and economic stability. Truckers are often stranded for days or weeks, disrupting the supply of food, medicine, and essential goods to communities, they said.

The unions urged the government to prioritize repairs, deploy standby machinery to clear blockages quickly, and ensure safe passage for all commuters. They emphasized that road safety is directly linked to the well-being of local communities and the smooth functioning of the economy.

Thilitsurr, Meluri district president, Yangkhong Sangtam, Kiphire district president, and Khosheta Rhakho, Phek district president, collectively appealed to the public to support their demand for immediate government action to secure these vital road networks.
