The North East Zone squad for the highly anticipated Duleep Trophy, set to take place from 28 June to 28 July, has been finalized. The squad features three players from Nagaland, including seasoned cricketer Jonathan Rongsen as the skipper.

R Jonathan, Imliwati Lemtur and Nagaho Chishi are the players selected from Nagaland where Jonathan has been appointed as the Captain to lead the team while Sikkim’s Nilesh Lamichaney will be the Vice Captain.

The Duleep Trophy is a major zonal tournament in the BCCI calendar, involving teams from six zones across India. Since the 2019-20 season, the NE Zone has become an integral part of this domestic first-class cricket competition.

Under the guidance of Naba Bhattacharjee, Zonal Convener of the NE Zone, the selection committee meticulously evaluated the performance records and statistics of players from all six states during the previous domestic tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy and NECDC tournaments in the senior category.

A key focus of the selection process was to provide well-deserved opportunities and exposure to local talents.

To prepare for the upcoming championship, a 10-12 day training camp will be organized, with the venue to be announced shortly.
