Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), in collaboration with District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA) and the college Red Ribbon Club, celebrated International Youth Day at the college campus on Wednesday under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
The programme was chaired by Nungshiwapang, a Semester I student, while JMC Principal Dr. Imtiwati Jamir delivered the welcome address. A special song was presented by Liju Achumi, a Semester V student, followed by presentations by winners of the elocution competition.
Kewimesin Nriame, EAC Mokokchung, who attended as the special invitee, encouraged students to make positive contributions to society. She stressed the importance of maintaining a good and ambitious circle of friends and urged students to use social media responsibly.
She also encouraged the youth to pursue their personal aspirations rather than conforming to societal expectations. Advising them to remain resilient in the face of failure, she emphasised hard work and dedication.
Nriame further highlighted the importance of promoting local arts and crafts to help young people remain connected to their roots.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Chubaienla Imchen, Nodal Officer of the JMC Red Ribbon Club, followed by the ceremonial flag-off of the “Youth on Wheels” initiative.
