Mokokchung, July 21 (MTNews): Kabor Salangtem, a public welfare group under its motto “For the welfare of Salangtem in particular and Mokokchung in general,” conducted a plastic waste collection day on Thursday at Salangtem Ward. Plastics collected were later delivered to the Materials Recovery Facility of the Mokokchung Municipal Council.
The group’s representatives told Mokokchung Times that their common goal was to encourage various societies in Mokokchung Town to come forward and assist the sanitation committees as well as the ward councils in keeping their respective wards clean, and that everyone is a stakeholder when it comes to keeping the town clean and hygienic.
Kabor Salangtem was founded in 2017 by a group of 18 like-minded GenXers born and raised in Salangtem Ward who embarked on a cleanliness and plastic-free campaign in and around Mokokchung town. The Ao word ‘Kabor’ means ‘true buddy.’
‘Gratitude to Metsubo Jamir’
Kabor Salangtem also expressed their gratitude to Metsubo Jamir, Nagaland Minister of Rural Development, for assisting the group in their mission and acknowledged him for various developmental works carried out in the ward as well as the town. The group also conveyed their request to the minister to continue to work for the welfare of the people even in the future and expressed their willingness to cooperate and support him in his noble deeds.
Kabor Salangtem while acknowledging the minister said that, apart from performing his duty as an elected representative, he is always willing to go the extra mile to improve the lives of the people not just of his constituency but the whole town. Kabor Salangtem cited that the minister has provided bore wells and solar lights for his constituency as well as donated healthcare equipment like hospital beds and mattresses, oxygen cylinders, and power generator as well as set up an affordable top-notch coaching center.
