Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü retains Northern Angami wrestling title

Kohima, 7 February (MTNews): Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü, a 25-year-old wrestling powerhouse, defended his Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) 65th Wrestling Meet title for the second year in a row at the Kohima village ground, Ziekezou, on Wednesday.

Inthe final match, Pienyü defeated Menuosetuo Yiese, a former champion, in straight bouts to retain his title. This wasn’t their first encounter, as Pienyü had already triumphed over Yiese in the Kohima Village wrestling earlier this year.

The champion, son of Lt. Thepfusanyü Pienyü from Kohima village, stands tall at 6 feet 3 inches and weighs 131 kilograms. His runner-up, Menuosetuo Yiese, also hails from Kohima village and is 25 years old, standing at 6 feet and weighing 125 kilograms.

Rounding out the top positions were Vizakietuo Suohu in third place and Neizosetuo Kire in fourth.

Pienyü’s victory earned him a well-deserved cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, while Yiese received Rs 80,000 for his second-place finish. Suohu and Kire took home Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000, respectively.

A total of 60 wrestlers from various Northern Angami villages competed in the wrestling meet.
