Khiamniungan Tribal Council to hold massive rally against border fencing and scrapping of Free Movement Regime

The Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) has announced a massive democratic rally at International Trade Centre (ITC) Dan on April 3, 2025, in protest against the proposed imposition of border fencing construction and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border.

An emergency meeting convened by KTC on March 30 at Noklak headquarters saw participation from multiple organizations, including Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU), Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH), Noklak District GBs Union (NDGBU), Noklak Chamber of Commerce & Industries (NCCI), Mobile and Drivers Union (MDU), and representatives from all 11 wards of Noklak Town.

Key resolutions adopted for the April 3 rally:

· Business and Institutions to Shut Down: All private and government offices, schools, and business establishments will remain closed during the rally, except for administration offices, police personnel, paramilitary forces, medical services, and fire & emergency services, which have been exempted.

· Placards for Protest: Each ward, Mobile and Drivers Union, and NCCI has been assigned to prepare 50 plain placards for the rally.

· Public Mobilization: All 11 ward chairpersons in Noklak Town must mobilize at least 50 participants each, while Thang Range Public Organization (TRPO) has been tasked with gathering at least 30 participants from each village under its jurisdiction.

· Refreshments for Protesters: The Noklak Chamber of Commerce & Industries (NCCI) will provide light refreshments for the participants.

· Volunteer Groups: The Pangsha Public Organization (PPO) and All Pangsha Students’ Union (APSU) have been directed to formulate volunteer groups to assist during the rally.

· Rally Timings and Venue: All participants must assemble near NTBC in Noklak Town before 7:00 AM before proceeding to the rally site.

· Media Coverage: KTC has invited regional and national media houses, as well as YouTubers, to cover the event.

“All federating and subordinate units under KTC are directed to participate in the event positively,” the council stated, urging high-minded individuals to participate in the rally with optimism for the welfare of the community and the common cause of Nagas in general.

KTC emphasized that no separate intimation will be given, and all concerned organizations, unions, and wards under Noklak District are expected to adhere to the resolutions and ensure strict compliance.
