Khonthungia Odyuo of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) was elected as the Chairman of the Bhandari Town Council (BTC) during a meeting of the newly elected members held at the conference hall of the Additional Deputy Commissioner in Bhandari on July 6, 2024.
The swearing-in ceremony, administered by Deputy Commissioner Furhesie Nyuwi from Wokha, included the Oath of Affirmation as per Section 60A of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023. Following this, Deputy Commissioner Nyuwi presided over the election of the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson for the Town Council in accordance with Sections 12(3) and 23 of the same Act. Also present were Additional Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer for ULB Election, Bhandari, Longdiba L. Sangtam NCS, and MLA of the 40th Assembly Constituency Bhandari, Achumbemo Kikon.
Khonthungia Odyuo and T Likao Odyuo, both from the NPF party, were elected as the Chairman and Deputy Chairman, respectively, with a 2/3 majority support.
DC Wokha Furhesie Nyuwi and MLA Achumbemo Kikon congratulated the elected members on their successful election in their respective wards. They also expressed gratitude and commended the ADC & RO Bhandari and his team for conducting the ULB election in a fair and peaceful manner.
The nine elected members will represent the nine wards of Bhandari town as the first team of councillors since the establishment of the Bhandari Town Council in 2016.
