Akehda Amulung, Kiphire, organised an inaugural beekeeping training programme for livelihood promotion at Shishimi village on September 26, with funding support from the North Eastern Council (NEC).
The programme was moderated by Irothe T. Sangtam, CEO, Akehda Amulung. The Shishimi Village Council Chairman welcomed the initiative, describing it as the first training programme of its kind conducted by an organisation in the village and expressing the community’s support for a long-term partnership.
Akehda Amulung founder Longtili C. Sangtam thanked the Village Council, church, Self-Help Groups and community members for their participation. He said beekeeping could contribute to the local economy and provide a sustainable livelihood and additional source of income. He encouraged beneficiaries to make full use of the training and assured continued support, including assistance in marketing their products.
The Head GB of Shishimi also welcomed the initiative, noting the village’s traditional basket-making identity and expressing hope that beekeeping and honey production would become another source of livelihood and recognition for the village.
Zukhathong N. conducted a session on the basics of beekeeping, covering bee colonies, hive management, honey production and proper handling of bees. The programme concluded with a practical demonstration on bee rearing and hive management.
The initiative brought together village leaders, church representatives, SHGs, beneficiaries and community members.
