Kiphire District Congress Committee (KDCC) has expressed “full and unwavering support” to Tsumongthong Yim, a resident of Fakim village in Kiphire district, who has raised allegations of large-scale corruption in the Pungren–Mimi to Fakim road project sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase VIII.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the KDCC said Yim had taken “a bold stand” against the alleged corruption, describing his actions as reflecting “the spirit of civic responsibility and the power of individual voices in holding institutions accountable.”
According to the committee, revelations obtained through the Right to Information Act (RTI) were “deeply troubling.”
While official records reportedly show that Rs 727.06 lakh was released for the completion of a 20-km road project, on-ground verification has indicated that “little to no substantive work” has been carried out.
“This stark contradiction between documented claims and physical reality raises serious questions about the integrity of the project and the conduct of those entrusted with its execution,” the KDCC stated.
It further noted that Yim’s appeal to the First Appellate Authority of the Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges) was dismissed as a “misunderstanding,” which the KDCC said undermines the legitimacy of his concerns and “reflects a disturbing lack of transparency and accountability within the system.”Calling Yim’s description of the situation as a “travesty of justice” justified, the KDCC said the case was not merely about financial malpractice but “a betrayal of public trust, a denial of basic infrastructure to a remote community, and a violation of the principles of equitable development.”
“The alleged collusion between contractors and public officials, if proven true, represents a systemic failure that must be addressed with urgency and resolve,” it said.
Commending Yim for his resilience “in the face of threats and pressure to abandon his pursuit of justice,” the KDCC said his determination to continue advocating for the rights of his community was “a powerful reminder that democracy thrives when citizens are empowered to speak out against injustice.”
The KDCC joined Yim in demanding:
·A comprehensive and independent investigation into the road project and its financial records
·Legal and disciplinary action against all individuals found to be involved in corrupt practices
· Immediate steps to ensure the promised road connectivity is delivered to Fakim and adjoining areas
·Institutional reforms to strengthen transparency, oversight, and whistleblower protection mechanisms
“Let this case serve as a turning point—not only for Fakim village but for all communities across Nagaland and India who continue to suffer due to misgovernance and corruption,” the KDCC said, calling upon the Government of Nagaland to “act decisively and restore faith in public institutions by ensuring justice is served and development reaches those who need it most.”
The statement was signed by K Tsalimong, president of KDCC.
