The District Level Training (DLT) for the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2024 began today at the Seili Conference Hall in Kiphire. The ASER survey, a nationwide citizen-led household initiative, seeks to understand whether children in rural India are enrolled in school and whether they are achieving basic reading and arithmetic skills.

Since its inception in 2005, the ASER survey has been a crucial tool, providing valuable insights into the education system across rural India. With volunteers from over 500 organizations nationwide, the survey is a collaborative effort to gather data that reflects the ground reality of education in the country.

During the training, participants were briefed on the objectives and methodology of the ASER survey. Emphasis was placed on the importance of accurate data collection, which plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and strategies to improve education in rural areas. The district of Kiphire is set to contribute to this important national endeavor, helping to ensure that no child is left behind in terms of education and learning outcomes.

The previous ASER 2022 survey covered around 700,000 children in 19,000 villages across 616 districts in India. This year’s survey promises to provide updated and detailed insights, particularly in rural areas like Kiphire.

As the district gears up for this massive effort, the trained volunteers will soon embark on the data collection process, playing a critical role in assessing the educational status of children in the district. This initiative is expected to bring a clearer picture of the challenges and successes within the local education system, contributing to better planning and implementation of educational programs in the district and beyond.
