The Kiphire District GBs’ Association (KDGBA) and the Eastern Sumi GBs’ Union have appealed to the Nagaland government to intervene in the ongoing tensions between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities, calling for peace talks, enhanced security and assistance for displaced families.

The two organisations undertook a goodwill mission to Pokhpur, Zaonger Longtsonger, Pungro and Kiusam town on October 15, following the escalation of tensions on October 10.

Led by KDGBA president K. Tsilise and Eastern Sumi GBs’ Union president Yameshi, the delegation interacted with village authorities, elders, residents, representatives of the Yimkhiung Tribal Council and Tikhir Tribal Council, both communities’ GBs’ associations, and church leaders.

During the visit, the mission team urged both communities to exercise restraint, refrain from provocation and resolve their differences through dialogue and peaceful means.

The delegation also appealed to the State Government to ensure the safety and security of villagers, facilitate peace talks between the communities and take necessary measures to restore lasting peace and communal harmony in the affected areas.

Highlighting the plight of displaced families, the two organisations called on the government to provide adequate financial and material assistance to meet their immediate needs and support their rehabilitation and recovery.

The KDGBA and Eastern Sumi GBs’ Union reaffirmed their commitment to peace, unity and mutual respect, expressing hope that collective efforts and constructive dialogue would help restore normalcy and strengthen peaceful coexistence among the communities.
