The Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students’ Union (ENSSU) has raised urgent concerns regarding the recent transfer of teachers in Kiphire District and the lack of replacements, leading to severe disruption in the academic environment.
In a letter addressed to the Principal Director of the Department of School Education, the ENSSU expressed its deep concern over the transfer of UGHT teachers and a PT teacher from GPS Lukhami, GHS Phisami, and GPS Sitimi Village ‘A’ under Kiphire District, as per the notification EDN/PLN/RATIONALISATION/2023, dated 10th February 2025. While acknowledging the authority’s decision to transfer the teachers, the union emphasized that the absence of replacements has created a significant shortage of educators, thereby jeopardizing the education of students in these areas.
The letter further highlighted the ongoing issue at GHS Sitimi Town, where the school has been functioning without a Science teacher since the resignation of the previous teacher last year. This shortage has severely impacted the science education of the students.
In light of these pressing concerns, the ENSSU has requested immediate intervention from the department, urging replacement of the transferred teachers with qualified and experienced educators; Appointing a Science teacher at GHS Sitimi Town without delay; and ensuring a seamless transition to minimize the impact on students’ academic progress.
The ENSSU stressed that the matter must be treated as a priority, as the future of the students is at stake. The union requested a prompt response from the department regarding the actions to address the issue.
