Kiphire: MVSU Literary cum Sports Session begins at Metonger village

The Metonger Village Students’ Union Literary cum Sports Session program kicked off with vibrancy and enthusiasm at the Metonger Village Public Ground on January 3, 2026. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, officials and members of the public, reflecting the spirit of sportsmanship and unity.

The program began with the arrival of the special guest, P Shiuto Tikhir, retired Assam Rifles, followed by the flag hoisting ceremony. The event was emceed by S Tsurehba, Assistant General Secretary. An invocation prayer was led by Pastor M.B.C, seeking blessings for the smooth conduct of the program and the participants.

A welcome address was delivered by Toju KN, Literary Secretary, who said the union hoped the session would foster unity, healthy competition and a strong sporting culture among the youth. This was followed by a special number presented by Lutsumong S, which added cultural value to the program. The special guest later addressed the gathering and encouraged participants to uphold discipline, teamwork and fair play in sports.

The oath-taking ceremony was administered by T Tutsu, Games and Sports Secretary, during which players pledged to play in true sportsmanship and abide by the rules and decisions of the referees. The vote of thanks was delivered by TL Kius, Executive Secretary, acknowledging the efforts of all those involved in organising the event. The program concluded with a benediction pronounced by TL Khiammong, Associate Women Pastor.

The sports events were officially declared open by the special guest. The competitions include volleyball and badminton for both boys and girls, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and promote physical fitness.

The session will continue until January 4, during which career guidance and a literary session will be held. K Sudanvito Justin, Women Resource Development Officer, and Limti Y Tikhir, Vice President of the Tikhir Students’ Union, will serve as resource persons for the career guidance program. Napoleon K Tikhir will exhort the students during the literary session. The literary competitions will include spelling bee, extempore speech and debate.
